Bedding

Cats sleep around 12 to 16 hours a day so what’s more important than having a soft, comfortable bed that they can snuggle in to get their beauty sleep? One very important tip – you can scrimp on toys but never a bed!

One of my biggest regrets towards Ah Mao was not sourcing for a bed for her. She was so weak that she was bed-ridden for the last few days of her life. As she had no proper bed, I could only put her flat on a soft blanket on the floor. But the problem was that the blanket couldn’t provide support for her, especially her back. It was obvious that she was struggling to sleep since she can’t even change position herself. It was painful to watch. She used to sleep on hard surfaces like the floor, table tops. If not she would go for the sofa, our beds or the soft blankets that I lay on the floor for her. Since she looked like she enjoyed sleeping on those all these while, never have I thought of buying her a nice bed. A huge shame that I wasn’t tech savvy at that time. Refused to learn how to shop for things online, if not I would have know how easy and convenient buying a pet bed online was.

It was only after Ah Mao’s death that I realised the importance of a good bed. I finally learnt how to shop online and bought a simple but nice bed for Ning. Each time I see her enjoying her sleep on that bed, I wondered how nice it would have been if Ah Mao had a chance to sleep on that too. She would have loved it. I still remember the two of them fighting over a fleece blanket that I bought. They fought nightly till a point where my dad told me to just get another one so that the fighting could stop. It was so funny to watch them fight over such petty stuff just like sisters do.

Anyway, the bed that I bought for Ning was an affordable and simple one that is widely available online. She curls comfortably on the bed, both her tummy and back being supported by the middle and the sides of the bed. Most importantly, the sides of the bed were like pillows where her head could rest upon. When Ah Mao was so weak and couldn’t lift her head up on her own, this bed would have been ideal to provide support to her neck to help her breathe better and have better rest (see pics below). Its material also made it warm and cosy, just like the way cats love. It is also extremely easy to wash and dry as well. If you’re worried about having to wash it often, just lay a towel over it so that you can replace the towel as and when it is dirty instead of having to wash the entire bed frequently. You should have seen how Ning ran after her bed and try to clamber on top of it to stop me from washing it each time I tried. Funny! =) Do expect the cushion to sink a little after some time from all the abuse your kitty is going to unleash on it (scratching, rolling, kneading, jumping). All you gotta do is to fluff it up and it’s good for the next round of “fun” your kitty is going to have with it. 😉

Honestly, when you see your kitty all snuggled up on the bed, purring and enjoying it night after night, you’ll feel that every cent you spent was worth it. If you haven’t gotten one for your kitty, do seriously consider it. Your kitty will definitely thank you for getting it one!

Love,
TG
